SEK Debaters Advance to the Grand Final of the 15th Inter-government Secondary Schools English Debating Competition
The Debate Team of Sir Ellis Kadoorie Secondary School (West Kowloon) achieved a remarkable victory in the Semi-Final round of the 15th Inter-government Secondary Schools English Debating Competition, held on 16 May 2026, and advanced to the Grand Final.
Led by Team Captain Saberi Arsam (5A), the SEK Debate Team presented compelling arguments in support of the motion: “Every child should be required to learn a life skill at school before they can graduate primary school.” Competing as the proposition team, they won decisively with a score of 3–0.
The debating skills of the team—Team Captain Saberi Arsam, First Speaker Ali Shiloh Asia (5A), and Second Speaker Mandasari Andrea Stephani (5A)—were commendable. In addition, Saberi Arsam was named the Best Debater in this contest.
The Grand Final will be held on 6 July 2026 at Kowloon Technical School. This is the second time that the SEK Debate Team has reached this height in the school’s history of English debating competitions.
